Alex 2 Vale 1

Fantastic result for the Alex at Gresty Road on Saturday, but it was a messy day around town. Shopping with the Mrs and kids around 1pm I noticed a gaggle of about 40 young Vale idiots roaming through the town centre looking for trouble. Within minutes the sirens were going and there was even a police helicopter tracking the movement of supporters. I grabbed a chippy with mates on Nanny Road and watched the chaos outside the Last Orders bar. Police had to direct traffic around nutters who had spilled onto the road. There was an edgy atmosphere inside the ground, a few one-off incidents and a few Vale fans chucked out. After the match it was bizarre seeing the likes of Gary Roberts wander into the Alex lounge - not a popular figure. Then Jim Gannon, happy to sit and chat with his family and Crewe fans. Nice fella. He's got his work cut out at Vale Park. The Alex are starting to look pretty damn resilient...
