BMW M5 Peformance & Specifications

Auto makers are expecting that an overhaul to the BMW M5 will be ready in Upcoming 2012 Cars. Insiders believe that the current V10 engine will be replaced with a twin-turbo V8 engine. The new engine is expected to have about 580 horsepower and product over 500 foot-pounds of torque. The transmission is expected to be a seven or eight-speed, dual clutch transmission (replacing the unpopular SMG transmission). Drivers will be able to control shifting via paddles mounted on the steering wheel. Small turbines are built into the grille to transform drag into energy.

These changes are designed to cut back on fuel consumption without giving up performance or the pleasure of driving a pure performance machine. The Upcoming 2012 Cars BMW M5 is expected to get somewhere around 14.5 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway (the current M5 gets about 11/17 mpg).
